Freitas Trenchless & Plumbing

HDPE · upsizing available · 2 access pits

Full replacement.
Two small pits.

Pipe bursting pulls a bursting head through the old pipe, fracturing it outward into the surrounding soil while drawing new seamless HDPE in behind it. You get a brand-new pipe along the entire run from two small pits rather than a trench across the property.

  • Genuine full replacement, not a liner inside a compromised host pipe
  • Can upsize the line, from 4 in. to 6 in. for example, which lining cannot do
  • New HDPE is seamless and fused, with no joints for roots to find
  • Two access pits instead of an open trench across driveway and lawn

Fit

When this is the right call,
and when it isn’t.

Selling you the wrong method is how a job comes back. Here is where this one genuinely wins, and where we will tell you to spend the money differently.

Right for

Collapsed pipe with no host left

Bursting does not need a sound host pipe the way lining does.

Undersized lines

Where a building has been added to and the original lateral no longer carries the load.

Long runs under hardscape

The longer the run, the more bursting saves against open-cut restoration costs.

Badly deteriorated clay or Orangeburg

Common in mid-century Westchester housing stock. Orangeburg in particular is past replacing, not repairing.

Not the right call for

Back-pitched lines

Bursting follows the existing path and grade. A pitch problem still needs open-cut re-grading.

Congested utility corridors

If gas, water, or electric run tight alongside, the ground displacement may not be safe. The camera and locate tell us.

Method

How the work
actually runs.

No surprises on the day. This is the sequence, start to finish.

Camera, locate, and mark out

We confirm the path, depth, and every utility crossing it before any equipment arrives.

Open two pits

One at the launch end, one at the receiving end. Everything between them stays untouched.

Pull the head

The bursting head fractures the old pipe outward and draws fused HDPE in behind it along the full run.

Connect and test

Tie in at both ends, then flow-test and camera the new line end to end.

Backfill and restore

Pits compacted and restored to the scope agreed in writing before work started.

Why trenchless wins here

The restoration is
the real cost.

Same property, same failed line, two methods. Drag to compare what each one leaves behind.

Open-cut Trenchless
Drag to compare
The same property and the same failed sewer line, repaired two ways. Open-cut removes 58 linear feet of driveway and landscaping over four to seven days. The trenchless method replaces the same line through two small access pits in a single day, leaving the surface untouched.

Questions

Pipe Bursting:
what people ask.

How is bursting different from lining?

Lining rebuilds the inside of the pipe you already have and needs that pipe to be structurally present. Bursting destroys the old pipe and installs a genuinely new one, and can increase the diameter. Bursting handles worse damage; lining is less invasive when the host pipe still qualifies.

Does bursting damage nearby utilities?

It displaces soil outward, so clearance matters. We locate and mark every utility along the run first, and if the corridor is too tight we say so and price a different method.

How long does the property have no service?

Most residential replacements are completed within a single working day, with service restored the same evening.

Next step

Start with footage.
Then decide what it needs.

Every Freitas job begins with a camera survey, because a five-figure repair decision should be made from evidence rather than from a guess at the cleanout. Tell us what the property is doing and we will take it from there.

  • Camera survey before any recommendation, every time
  • Written scope with each viable method priced side by side
  • Your own copy of the footage, whoever you hire
  • One licensed in-house crew, never subcontracted
